NAHANT — After Town Administrator Tony Barletta announced his departure from the role effective July 1, the town has begun the process of searching for his replacement.
The next step is to establish a Town Administrator Search Committee — but before the committee can start vetting possible replacements for Barletta, it has to gather enough members to begin the process.
Currently, since Barletta has announced he’ll be taking on the role of town administrator for Manchester-by-the-Sea, the town has begun gauging interest in individuals throughout Nahant who may want to be involved in selecting the next person to fill the position.
Nine members from various other committees will be recruited into the search committee. Four appointments will be made by the Town Moderator Peter Barba, three by Barletta, one appointment by the Planning Board, and another by the Personnel Director (Barletta).
According to Josh Antrim, who was still the chair of the board during the time of Barletta’s announcement that he’ll be leaving, the appointments will be made public within the next few days.
Selectman Rob Tibbo commented on the town’s efforts to begin searching for committee members to help with the process of finding the next Town Administrator.
“I spoke with Peter Barba, the new town moderator, and some letters have already been issued to people who volunteered,” Tibbo said. “I imagine that the town is going to be putting out the final selection within the next few days.”
Barletta, who will be moving on from his position with the town, has served in the role of town administrator since he was elected in 2018. Previously, Barletta expressed his hopes that the next person to fill the position can work to keep the town on the path “it’s currently on.”
