You know what I’ve been thinking? Power rankings are good to know, but don’t tell the whole story…
Just look at Peabody’s girls lacrosse team, which took down powerhouse Chelmsford, 11-10, last Thursday. During game-time, Chelmsford was ranked No. 2 in Division 1.
“The game was led by strong defensive play from Caitlin Snow (500th career save), Maia Davis, and Connie Patturelli,” said Coach Michelle Roach. “I’m very proud of their hard work, excellent decision-making, and commitment to pushing until the last whistle.”
The offense wasn’t bad, either. Brooke Lomasney (5 goals, 2 assists), Ally Bettencourt (3 goals, 3 assists), and Madi Barrett did the damage.
The Tanners won two other games last week, to boot.
Peabody defeated Winthrop, 16-1, on enemy turf. The girls spread out the offensive wealth, which was led by Lomasney (4 goals, 2 assists), Bettencourt (3 goals, 2 assists), Victoria Vaz (2 goals, 2 assists), Ari Alvarado (2 goals, 2 assists), Barrett (2 goals, assist), Bella Kassis (2 assists), Connie Patturelli (goal), Elizabeth Moore (goal), and Alexis Morris (goal).
“Total team effort,” Roach said. “[We were] really focused on draw, ground-ball control, and causing interceptions.”
The week was capped off with a 12-4 home win against Swampscott. Lomasney (5 goals) was on a mission, while Cecelia Tripp tucked a pair of goals.
To the Tanners, who are now ranked No. 16 in Division 1 with a 9-2 record, good week.
