SAUGUS — The Cultural Council met Tuesday night to discuss upcoming events, including a collaboration with Bike to the Sea (B2S) this coming summer.
The goal for the event is to have artwork along the Northern Strand Trail, a project spearheaded by BS2.
Council Co-Chair Tori Darnell explained that BS2 had taken a vote and agreed to the collaboration, leading to the Council’s next discussion of how to set the event up and what should be involved.
“We’re looking at I think July 19, a Saturday, for an art show that goes from about 11 a.m.-5 p.m., with two hours for set up in the morning, and I think it will just take about an hour to break down,” Darnell said.
Co-chair Dennis Gould asked if the show would include art from anyone in the community, to which Darnell responded with a yes.
“There will be a call for art, so people can respond in an email or a form response. I have to put that together,” Darnell said.
She continued that she thinks the art can be something that speaks to the connectivity of the trail involving the nature or community aspects.
“Keep it broad and keep people excited for it,” she said. “Bike to the Sea will pick out the locations of where they can go because of safety.”
Darnell explained that there are certain points on the trail where people can safely get off and then get back on to continue looking at the artwork that will be up.
The council will continue to plan the event with the help of Bike to the Sea as they figure out possible drink stations, other community groups that could get involved, and where they’d like the event to begin.
