Lynnfield’s baseball team is off and running to the Division 4 state tournament. With Thursday’s 9-5 home victory against Essex Tech, the Pioneers (10-3) secured lucky win No. 10.

“We were up, 9-1, and they came back in the last inning with four more runs,” said Lynnfield Coach John O’Brien. “The pitching was pretty good, but there’s always room for improvement.”

Tyler Adamo pitched five innings, while Luke DiSilvio entered in relief and “shut them down in the seventh inning,” as said by O’Brien. Walter Radulski led the offense with three hits, Nick Groussis added a couple more, and Charlie Morgan hit a single to go with “a great catch in the outfield to save a couple of runs,” according to O’Brien.

As of the most recent power rankings (Tuesday), Lynnfield ranked No. 1 in Division 4, followed by No. 2 Pittsfield and No. 3 East Bridgewater.

BASEBALL

Peabody 9
Marblehead 0

Peabody jumped ahead, 6-0, after two innings and it was smooth sailing from there at Seaside Park. On the other side, Marblehead (6-7) dropped its third consecutive game.

The Tanners were led by Mike Murphy (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Ty Lomasney (3-for-4, R, RBI), and Jariel Tolentino (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI), while pitcher Max Silvia (6 IP, 4 H, 7 K, 5 BB, 0 ER) put on a show.

Greyson Leventhal (H), Ethan Harwood (2 H), and Colt Wales (H) compiled Marblehead’s hits.

Mystic Valley 10
Lynn Tech 0

The Tigers put the ball in play multiple times, but couldn’t drive in any runs against Mystic Valley at Fraser Field.

“I give Mystic credit – they held us off when we were applying pressure, but they made some really good defensive plays out there,” said Tech Coach Eddie Lewis. “Unfortunately for us, we had some plays we wish we could’ve taken back, but this is baseball and that’s how the game goes sometimes. We played hard, but fell short tonight.”

SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 11
Bishop Fewick 0

St. Mary’s (11 H) cruised by its traditional archrival with Olivia DiSessa batting 3-for-4, including a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning. Aliza Crean-Oviedo got the start in the circle, allowing just two hits, a walk, and no runs to go with five strikeouts across five innings. Catherine Newbury and Adyson Newhall performed well in relief, while Kylie Prezioso compiled two hits and three stolen bases.

Medford 16
Lynn Classical 4

The Rams received RBI from Nevaeh Eth (2-for-3, R, RBI, 99th career hit), Brooke Braswell, Chloe Cornett, and Mia Duncan, but couldn’t sustain the offensive pressure of Medford.

“We played all seven innings and we hung in there with undefeated Medford… but their offense is just tough to slow down,” said Classical Coach Joe Morin.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 18
St. John’s Shrewsbury 3

Cam McCarthy’s four goals and assist lifted The Prep (14-1) to a victory on Glatz Field. Helping out offensively were Jackson Quigley (3 goals, 2 assists), Madden McGowan (2 goals, assist), and Beckett Lee (goal, 4 assists). Chase Kenyon won 15 of 20 face-offs, while Nick Schibli played well defensively.

BOYS TENNIS

Bishop Fenwick 3
Swampscott 2

Despite first and second singles wins from Sam Schepens and Elijah Stadtlander, the Big Blue met their match on Fenwick’s courts. Both doubles matches went to third sets, but Fenwick prevailed.

Marblehead 4
Hamilton-Wenham 1

The Magicians overcame a second singles loss to take down Hamilton-Wenham. Etan Farfel and Austin Bacon secured singles wins, while the duos of Jayden Janock/Ty Cooper and TJ Kelly/Alex Boehning took care of doubles business.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bishop Fenwick 3
Swampscott 2

Swampscott’s Nikki Carr recorded a first singles win while the duo of Sasha Fafel and Janielle De La Cruz cruised in second doubles, but Swampscott fell on home courts.

Marblehead 3
Hamilton-Wenham 2

Marblehead dropped first and second singles matches, but had just enough to squeak by Hamilton-Wenham. Abbie Goodwin got the Red and Black on the board, and from there, the doubles teams of Lani Gilmore/Reese Friedman and Josie Reers/Caroline Bruett prevailed.

“This was a great high school tennis matchup between two very solid teams,” said Marblehead Coach Tracy Ackerman. “HW has been dominating the Cape Ann League the past few years, so a victory today really is meaningful for us. We are peaking at the exact right time in our season.”

TRACK AND FIELD

The Lynn Tech girls defeated KIPP in a 122-21 final. Ashanti Batista placed first in the 400m hurdles and set a new school record. Brianna Anderson took first place in the mile. As for the boys, they fell to the Panthers, 72-60, but received stellar showings from Kevin Smart (400m hurdles, javelin), Liban Abdikadir (2 mile), Franklyn Rodriguez (mile), Christian Nunez (400m), Dereon Phipps (200m), and the 4×400 relay team.
