Swampscott seeks insight on town administrator search

Zach Laird

May 13, 2025 by Zach Laird

SWAMPSCOTT — The town has released a survey for residents to gauge their perspectives on what community members would like to see from the next town administrator.

In order to gain further insight about how the community feels about the role the town administrator plays, the survey came as the latest step in a long journey for the town to find someone to permanently fill the position. The goal is for the town to get a clearer picture of what qualities, priorities and experiences matter most to the town.

For any community member who’s interested in sharing their perspectives, ideas or concerns regarding the next town administrator they can find the survey on the front page of the town’s website.

Responses and input from residents will help the Town Administrator Screening Committee and the Select Board understand the values the community holds most important as they continue with the hiring process.

“While not every individual comment can shape the outcome, the overall feedback will be reviewed closely and used to inform our evaluation. We appreciate your input and your engagement in helping shape Swampscott’s future,” the town said in a statement with the survey.

The survey starts with asking participants if they still live in Swampscott, their age range, and which town precinct they reside in. One of the major questions first asked in the survey is: “What are the most critical priorities for the next Town Administrator to focus on as they start their tenure in Swampscott?” with a list of different areas/elements for participants to choose from.

Other questions give community members a chance to express whether people would like to see things like a “proactive mindset versus a reactive mindset,” as well as how transparent and willing to listen they hope or expect the next town administrator to be.
