SWAMPSCOTT — Vice chair of the Select Board Katie Phelan was elected as chair of the board during Wednesday evening’s meeting, with board member Doug Thompson elected as the new vice chair.

While the reorganization of the board is typically an annual matter, board member Danielle Leonard called for a vote on a new chair during the board’s meeting on May 7.

During the meeting, Chair MaryEllen Fletcher requested that the board switch up the line items of the budget so that it could first address the election of the two positions.

Board member David Grishman made a motion to consolidate the election of chair and vice chair, with Phelan as chair and Thompson as vice chair of the Select Board for the 25-26 year.

“Katie Phelan has served as the vice chair for two years, this is her fourth year on the board, it’s her election and I would feel comfortable nominating her as chair,” Grishman said.

Grishman continued, expressing his support for electing Thompson as the new vice-chair.

“Doug Thompson is in his third year on the board, and I would feel comfortable nominating him as vice chair,” he said.

Grishman then made a motion to elect Phelan and Thompson into the respective positions. Leonard seconded the motion, and the vote passed unanimously.
