To the editor:
As Rick Steves writes in his commentary in the Thursday, May 15, edition of The Daily Item, “To stay viable in an aggressively commercial society, you have to be big — big retail chains, big publishers, Big Tech, big media. And in big media, that means more programming from the top (national) and less from the community (local).”
I see the same important comparison between big newspapers — such as The Wall Street Journal — and the local community, represented by The Daily Item.
The many local communities that The Daily Item reporters serve so well include: Peabody, covered by Isaac Green; Swampscott and Nahant, covered by Zach Laird; Marblehead, covered by Amanda Lurey; and Lynnfield, covered by Anne Marie Tobin.
I do read the “big media” as well, but I really want to know about community events, local politics, and “my neighbors and fellow citizens,” to quote Steves one last time.
To your reporters — thank you, and keep up the good work!
