Saugus (9-8) pulled off the home upset win over Peabody on Monday evening. The Sachems defeated the Tanners 11-4.
Senior Taylor Deleidi was in the circle for Saugus and pitched five innings allowing four runs, all in the fifth inning, but kept Peabody “unbalanced,” according to Sachems Head Coach Steve Almquist. At the plate, Deleidi had two hits and two RBI.
Lily Ventre, who’s hitting close to .795 on the season, delivered once again. The senior leader went 4-for-4 with two solo home runs, three RBI and two runs scored.
Hannah Duong came up clutch, pinch hitting in the sixth inning and hitting a two-run double to seal the victory for Saugus.
Peabody’s Elizabeth Bettencourt hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Tanners a spark and a 4-3 lead.
Saugus racked up 17 hits in the game to come back and win. The Sachems are one win away from qualifying for the postseason.
SOFTBALL
St. Mary’s 10
Newton South 3
After its seven-game winning streak was snapped over the weekend, St. Mary’s bounced back with a win in Newton, taking care of the Lions.
The Spartans got on the board early thanks to a first-inning home run by Abbey Sousa to center field, bringing in two runs. Then Chloe Mahoney hit a two-RBI single to right field.
St. Mary’s finished with 14 hits, and leadoff hitter Olivia DiSessa led the team with three hits.

Chelsea 3
Lynn Classical won its fourth game in a row and improved to 11-6 on the season after a comfortable win against Chelsea. Senior Aliany Ramirez pitched six innings and struck out seven.
Freshman Kaycie Kelter and sophomore Kelsey Sinapius both had a hit and two RBI.
Jayliana Beauchamp registered her first varsity hit in addition to stealing a base and scoring a run.
Lynnfield 7
Amesbury 4
The Pioneers officially clinched a spot in the Division 4 state tournament after a three-run win over Amesbury.
Freshman Lilly Gately was in the circle and earned the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Morgan Hubbard led the Lynnfield offense with two hits and two RBI. Angelina O’Hara had two RBI with a single and a sacrifice fly.
Marblehead 12
Winthrop 0
Tessa Francis pitched five innings, giving up two hits while striking out nine to earn the win from the circle. Kelian Salem pitched the final two innings in relief.
Marblehead’s Luka Bornhorst went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple with four RBI.
Lyla McGovern, Nora Mahan, Hailey Schmitt, and Tessa Andriano all had two hits each.

The Spartans get back in the win column with a big win over the Eagles under the lights at Fraser Field.
Jack Zimmerman got the win from the mound going six innings allowing four hits while striking out seven.
Michal DeMaino went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

The Big Blue (7-10) fell short on the road. David Palmer was on the mound for Swampscott, going 3.1 innings giving up one hit, four walks, four strikeouts and three earned runs.
Nick Berube had an RBI single in the sixth inning, scoring Caden Ross for Swampscott’s lone run.
Marblehead 4

The Magicians (9-10) are one win away from clinching a postseason berth.
Senior captain Ian McComish pitched a one-hitter through six innings. McComish recorded an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to extend Marblehead’s lead to four.
Sophomore pitcher Owen Coyne came in to pitch in the seventh to close the game.
GIRLS LACROSSE

Peabody 6
The Tigers went into Peabody territory and walked away with a big win. Ally Bettencourt and Logan Lomasney each scored two goals in the first half when Peabody trailed 6-4 at halftime.
Peabody will look to bounce back on Tuesday against Saugus at 4 p.m.

It was a clean sweep for the Spartans at Nahant Country Club. Thomas Shea and Steve Nason both won their respective matches 6-0, 7-6.
Jason Spaulding also won at singles 6-0, 6-1, while the doubles team of Wes Georges and Thomas Weber (6-1, 6-2) won their match. Simon Tenorio and Ryan Gil (6-1, 6-0) also got a win at doubles.

The Rams fell short on Monday, losing 4-1 to a talented Malden team. The lone winner for Lynn Classical was Victor Bun at first singles.
It was a back-and-forth match with Bun taking the match in two sets 6-4, 6-3.

On what was described as the “windiest day of the season” by Marblehead Head Coach Elisabeth Foukal, the Magicians earned a big Northeastern Conference sweep of Gloucester.
At third singles, Austin Bacon didn’t lose a game, winning comfortably 6-0, 6-0. Etan Farfel at first singles won his matchup (6-0, 6-3), while teammate Matthew Sherf won at second singles 6-0, 6-1.
At first doubles, senior Anthony Vizy and sophomore Ty Cooper won 6-1, 6-0. In second doubles, Leo Winocour and TJ Kelly got the job done against Sam Young and Henry Harrison 6-1, 6-0.

The Eagles are Catholic Conference champions yet again. The win made it 40 conference wins in a row for St. John’s Prep.
The winners for St. John’s Prep were Rudr Malayya (6-2, 6-3), Jack Prokopis (6-0, 6-2), Luke Free (6-0, 6-1), and doubles team James de Buy Wenniger and Wade Evitts (6-1, 7-5).

With the match tied at two and coming down to second doubles, Sasha Fafel and Janielle de la Cruz won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to secure the win for the Big Blue. The doubles match lasted over three hours, but Swampscott didn’t quit and earned the victory.
Swampscott’s Nikki Carr won at first singles 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6-2) in an epic tiebreaker. Lilly Carr won in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Despite mixing up the lineup, the Magicians still found a way to sweep the Vikings.
The winners for the Magicians were Caroline Crosby (6-1, 6-2), Joy Meshulam (6-0, 6-2), Zoi Guzzini (6-1, 6-1) at singles. Callie Gilmore and Caroline Bruett won at first doubles (6-0, 6-0) and Eliana Berger and Erin Wilder won at second doubles 6-1, 6-1.
“It was great to see all of our players contributing to our win today,” Marblehead Head Coach Tracy Ackerman said. “Caroline Crosby did an outstanding job playing first singles. The wind was a big factor, and she played super consistent tennis.”

Peabody gets the Northeastern Conference win over Saugus. The winners for Peabody were Valentina Goga (6-0, 6-0), Alexandra Kourtelidis (2-6, 7-5, 6-2), Anna Maciel and Artemis Greko at first doubles (6-0, 6-1), and Izabella Pereira and Yasnelly Fernandez at second doubles (6-3, 6-3).

On Senior Night, the Rams got the job done with a three-set win (25-19, 25-11, 25-21). Senior Leonardo Cruz Noguera had 13 kills and four digs, while teammate Jared Rand had 10 assists, two kills, six digs and one block. Senior libero Luca Lopriore finished with eight digs and one ace.
“This was a big win for us. First because we’re coming up on states and every win matters. Second, because as a Coach this is how you always hope Senior Night goes. We had nine seniors participate tonight and every single one of them made a significant impact,” Rams Head Coach Chris LeBlanc said. “Jared set for us in the first set and came out playing really well and ran our offense as well as we could have hoped. Leo had his best game of the season as an attacker and Luca got to play libero and was outstanding in the role. Seven of these guys are foundation guys that have been with us from the beginning.”
