Monomoy’s softball team entered Tuesday evening’s matchup with a 16-0 record, but St. Mary’s – on Senior Day – had other plans at Rogato Field in Lynn.
The Spartans (12-5) defeated Monomoy (16-1) in a high-scoring 10-6 final. Angelina Owumi (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Abbey Sousa (3-for-4, R) led the offense, while Aliza Crean-Oviedo earned the victory in the circle.
Brooke Moloney, in her only at-bat of the season due to injury, drew a leadoff walk.
As of Tuesday morning’s MIAA power rankings, St. Mary’s checked in at No. 5 in Division 3, while Monomoy ranked No. 16 in Division 4.
Next up for the Spartans is Friday’s road game against Arlington Catholic at Hurd Field beginning at 3 p.m.

Emma Chevalier (3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5 K) entered in relief and secured a win for Classical (12-6). She was also 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.
Liliana Parker delivered “a huge bunt single” in the sixth inning and came around to score the go-ahead run for the Rams, who scored two in the sixth to break a 6-6 tie in enemy territory.
Looking to extend upon a five-game winning streak, the Rams host Revere at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Medford 3
Medford met its match at home and was tripled up by Marblehead (15-2). Tessa Francis of the Magicians gave up five hits and two earned runs to go with 15 strikeouts. She helped her cause in the third inning with a three-run homer.
Luka Bornhorst batted 2-for-4 and Lyla McGovern batted 1-for-3 with a three-run double. Ashley and Isabel Mortensen, as well as Nora Mayhan and Kate Andriano collected hits.

Call it a successful Senior Day for Saugus (10-8), which defeated a Northeastern Conference foe and qualified for the state tournament for the ninth consecutive season.
“I’m extremely happy and proud of the kids,” said Saugus Coach Steve Almquist, whose team has won five of six games.
Leading the way were pitcher Taylor Deleidi (7 IP, 3 H, 3 K), who also connected on two hits, and Arianna Chianca (2-for-4, 3 RBI, HR).

In a “tough game,” according to Tech Coach Eddie Lewis, his Tigers fell short against a senior-heavy Greater Lowell squad.
“My guys played hard for seven innings,” said Lewis, whose group wraps up its season Wednesday night against Greater Lawrence with first pitch set for 7 p.m. at Fraser Field.

Marblehead hit the road to Winthrop and returned home victorious after a 14-3 halftime cushion. Emma Ryan scored a hat trick, while Kathryn Commoss (2 goals, 3 assists) and Zoe Dwyer (2 goals, 3 assists) secured five-point evenings.
Following offensively were Gretchen Smith (assist), Caitlyn Ryan (2 goals), Ramona Gillett (goal), Maddie Forbes (2 goals, 2 assists), Sammy Walker (goal), Avery Barbeau (goal, assist), Anna Rausch (goal), and Ella McConnell (goal, 2 assists). Molly Bullard wasn’t bombarded with shots, but secured four saves when needed.

Swampscott (13-4) received strong outings from Avery Laundry (3 goals), Cecelia Tripp (2 goals), Lea Beatrice (goal), and Fiona Keaney (assist) en route to a narrow escape against Masconomet at Blocksidge Field. Lilah Caplan delivered a strong performance with 10 saves.

Playing 10-game pro sets due to cold weather, Swampscott snatched a road win. Sam Schepens, Victor Zeissig (in come-from-behind fashion), and Julian Flacke went 1-2-3 in singles. The doubles teams of Elijah Stadtlander/Daniel Wabno and Costa Shub/Max Arrendondo also got the job done.

Playing its seventh match in five days – and without its first singles player – Swampscott ran out of gas against Manchester-Essex. Sasha Fafel and Janielle De La Cruz won in second doubles.
Marblehead doubleheader
The Magicians took down Salem (5-0 final) and Peabody (4-1 final) in Tuesday’s Northeastern Conference doubleheader. Against the Witches, Abbie Goodwin, Callie Gilmore, and Lilah Siegel won singles matches, followed by the duos of Caroline Bruett/Josie Reers and Eliana Berger/Zoi Guzzini in doubles action. Against the Tanners, Sami Dosch and Nina Johnson secured singles wins. Doubles matches were won by Lani Gilmore/Reese Friedman and Joy Meshulam/Erin Wilder.
“We had to play a doubleheader due to all the rainouts, so due to the depth of our team, we could field two teams today and get nine points out of 10, which is great,” said Marblehead Coach Tracy Ackerman.
