NAHANT — Fire Lt. Frank Pappalardo III was arraigned Tuesday at Essex County Superior Court in Salem on 10 charges, with multiple counts of rape and assault and battery, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
Pappalardo was held pending a dangerousness hearing, the District Attorney’s office noted. The Item also spoke with several other sources in order to verify this information.
He was arraigned on four counts of rape, two counts of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, two counts of assault and battery, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of witness intimidation.
The Nahant Fire Department declined to comment on the matter.
“Frank Pappalardo has been placed on administrative leave, with pay, consistent with our collective bargaining agreement. This may change to unpaid leave pending the outcome of a dangerousness hearing expected later this week, as well as an agency review of the matter. Pappalardo currently holds the rank of lieutenant with the Nahant Fire Department and has been employed full time with the department since 2004,” Town Administrator Tony Barletta said.
