PEABODY — During the School Committee meeting Tuesday night, Superintendent Dr. Josh Vadala addressed some misinformation that was floating around regarding Peabody P.R.E.P. (Personalized Remote Education Program). The virtual school was established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There has been some misinformation about Peabody P.R.E.P. closing, our virtual school closing. I want to be clear that we are not closing the virtual school,” Vadala said.
He continued that there will be a virtual option that will remain, and that in the past week, they had a productive meeting with the state.
“We will be continuing with the virtual option. However, it’s going to look a little different. Currently, Attleboro has a single-district virtual school for its high school. It is not staffed with live teachers, but there is a check-in each day with a person,” Vadala said
He continued that with the current budget constraints, it is required that all of the teachers teach in person.
“However, we will be providing online resources to those students who would like to continue at Peabody P.R.E.P. with access to tutors and a daily check-in with our staff. So, every day they’ll have a check-in with a Peabody Public Schools staff,” he said.
Vadala said they will be working with individual families for students who want to remain in a virtual environment.
“We’ll work out with them how we can best meet their needs,” he said.
