NAHANT — Ranked just one spot apart in the MIAA’s Division 3 state tournament, that didn’t seem to bother St. Mary’s boys tennis squad, which picked up its first tournament win since 2019.

The No. 32 Spartans defeated No. 33 Ludlow, 5-0, in Tuesday’s preliminary round at Nahant Country Club. The win upped St. Mary’s season record to 11-6, while Ludlow fell to 10-6.

Thomas Shea (6-2, 6-2), Stephen Nason (7-6, 6-3), and Jason Spaulding (6-2, 6-1) picked up singles wins, while the duos of Thomas Weber/Wes Georges (6-3, 6-3) and Simon Tenorio/Ryan Gil (6-4, 6-4) took care of doubles business.

Next up for St. Mary’s is a round-of-32 matchup against top-ranked Bedford (11-4). The match is set for Saturday at Bedford High beginning at 3 p.m.
