Behind three goals and an assist from both Jason Rothwell and Tyler Ostroff, No. 15 Swampscott protected home turf defeating No. 18 Fairhaven 14-6 in Division 4.
It was a balanced attack for Swampscott, as it got 16 goals from seven different players. Chase Russo, Liam Keaney and Drew Hause all scored a pair of goals.
Timmy Sheehan made 12 saves in net for the Big Blue, who will advance to the Round of 16 where they will travel to face No. 2 Weston with the time and date TBD.
“Boots came out strong, focused and moved the ball efficiently. Defense executed well and forced Fairhaven to turn the ball over a lot,” Swampscott Head Coach Geoff Beckett said. “Great way to start the postseason.”

Bishop Fenwick 5
Belchertown 0
Another game, another tournament upset for No. 21 Bishop Fenwick. After defeating No. 12 Norwell 3-2 last week, the Crusaders battled No. 5 Belchertown. Bishop Fenwick is showing all of Division 3 that it is a lot better than its ranking suggests, as it defeated Belchertown in a 5-0 sweep to advance to the Elite 8.
Bishop Fenwick will wait and see who it will face in the next round, as it will play the winner of No. 4 Old Rochester and No. 13 Danvers.
Wayland 4
Marblehead 1
After winning its opening match against No. 15 Masconomet, No. 18 Marblehead made the trip to No. 2 Wayland for the second round of Division 2 tennis.
Unfortunately for the Magicians, they couldn’t pull off another upset, losing 4-1.
The lone winner for Marblehead came from the first doubles team of Reese Friedman and Lani Gilmore, who won a back-and-forth match 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), (12-10).
“Wayland is a powerhouse of a tennis team. All of their players hit tough deep balls with tons of variety in their games. It was easy to see why they are the number two seed. I was proud of our girls for never giving up on balls and fighting to the end,” Marblehead Head Coach Tracy Ackerman said. “Reese and Lani ended their uber-successful doubles tennis career in stellar fashion. After losing the first set, they battled from behind to win the second set in a tiebreaker. They pulled from all their experience as partners for two years and won an absolute battle of a tiebreaker 12-10. As a coach, that is all I could ask for. Lani and Reese have shown tremendous leadership and sportsmanship throughout the season, and for them to finish with this win means the world.”
