SWAMPSCOTT — The Elementary School hosted its first annual Field Day event for students on Tuesday morning at Blocksidge Field.

Students, faculty and volunteers gathered under the sun to participate in a day of fun, festivities and bouncy-house adventures. The event was organized largely by the elementary school physical education teachers, who collaborated to bring this event to life for the students.

The field was packed with giant inflatable bouncy houses and slides, along with countless games and activities for the kids to enjoy.

“It’s our first ever Swampscott Elementary School Field Day, we have 734 students, kindergarten through fourth grade, we walked grades 2, 3 and 4 down,” Principal Lori Sanborn explained. “School Resource Officers Kevin Reen and Brian Wilson are here, we have an ambulance on site, we have three nurses, also 160 parent volunteers — so, it really was a community-collective event.”

P.E. Teacher Michael Amaral explained how the event came to life.

“There was a lot of planning that came about — the three P.E. teachers over at Swampscott Elementary School (SES), Nick Calvano, Graham Beck and myself we just worked together to try and create the best event possible for the kids,” Amaral said. “We wanted to make sure safety was a big thing, and we focused on the students following our code of conduct to make sure everyone had a good time.”

School Resource Officer Kevin Reen also shared his perspective on the festivities.

“It’s an annual event that the elementary school has put on since I can remember — from what I understand for this year in particular, the physical education department took the lead with the help of other administrators, collaborated and got some ideas, and put it all together, and what you see is what you got,” Reen said.

Reen continued, “It’s an unbelievable opportunity for the kids to come down, be kids and have fun — I even think they ordered up a blue-sky day that would make Ferris Bueller skip school… They worked really hard.”

“This has just been an extraordinary effort by Swampscott Elementary School today, for the first ever Field Day on a beautiful day here at Blocksidge Field,” Select Board member Danielle Leonard said. “Cudos to all the teachers, the administrators, but especially the physical education teachers, their partnership with the P.T.O. put this together, it’s an amazing accomplishment, and I’m incredibly proud of Swampscott Public Schools today.”
