ROUNDUP: St. John’s Prep still alive in Division 1 baseball tournament

The No. 10 St. John’s Prep baseball team kept its Division 1 title chances alive with a 5-2 victory against No. 26 Wachusett Wednesday evening.

Will Shaheen (6 K) earned the win, while James Willett (K) picked up the save. Offensive damage was done by Tyler Spear (2 H, 3 RBI, R), Connor Durney (H, RBI), Christian McCarthy (RBI), Nicolas Lembo (H, 2 R), Willett (2 R), Shaheen (H), and James DiCarlo (H).

The Eagles advanced to the Round of 8, where they’ll face No. 2 Saint John’s Shrewsbury Sunday at 3 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Hopkinton 7
Marblehead 1

No. 15 Marblehead (17-5) trailed, 2-1, through four complete innings, but second-seeded Hopkinton pulled away late and advanced to the Division 2 Round of 8, where it will face No. 7 Westwood (TBD).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hamilton-Wenham 20
Swampscott 6

No. 11 Swampscott reached the end of the road in Division 4, falling to host Hamilton-Wenham, ranked sixth, by double digits. The Big Blue finished with a 14-5 record and Round-of-32 win against No. 22 Hull.

VOLLEYBALL

West Springfield 3
Lynn Classical 0

Fourth-ranked West Springfield took down No. 20 Classical (Div. 2) in straight set scores of 21-25, 19-25, and 21-25. Coach Chris LeBlanc and his Rams checked out with a record of 13-9.
