LYNN — The third and final session of the 10th Annual Lynn Fifth Grade Track and Field Championships was held June 2 at Manning Field.

The event welcomed students from 18 Lynn elementary schools, featuring more than 930 competitors with each youngster competing in a running event, field event, and relay in “what might be the largest elementary school track meet of its kind in the country,” according to meet representative Joe Abelon.

The top three schools in the girls’ division were Sisson (66), Hood (48), and Callahan (33). On the boys’ side, leading the way were Washington (44), Aborn (41), and Sisson (33).

Three meet records were set, two which came in the softball throw. Juliana Rodriguez took down the former record of 128-0 with an impressive throw of 153-0. Kingston Spain, of Sisson, beat the former record by nearly five feet, throwing 170-0. Connery’s Melany Perez set a record in the 200m with a time of 29.2.

Girls’ winners: 4×100 relay – Ford (1:13.0); 50m – tie between Farah Carvajal and Andrea Stanley, both of Sisson; 100m – Kyra Kimber of Sisson (15.8); 400m – Kylie Nol Mao of Hood (1:22.4); 800m – Elise Chesbrough of Sisson (3:28.6); 1-mile – Evelyn Perez Matul of Callahan (7:27.6); standing long jump – Roqeebah Akande of Hood (6-5).

Boys’ winners: 50m – Liam McMahon of Sisson (8.1); 100m – Oluwaseyifu of Shoemaker (15.3); 200m – Colton Gonzalez of Washington (32.9); 400m – Jerron Johnson of Washington (1:18.1); 800m – Patricio Cepeda of Ingalls (3:02.8); 1-mile – Nathaniel Mejia of Aborn (6:45.6); long jump – Nathaniel Mejia of Aborn (6-10); 4x100m – Aborn (1:06.6).

The meet was a cooperative project between Lynn Public Schools and Lynn Parks and Recreation.
