The second-seeded St. John’s Prep lacrosse team (20-1) advanced to the Division 1 semifinals Saturday morning after taking down No. 7 Westford Academy, 11-5, at Glatz Field in Danvers. Cam McCarthy (2 goals, assist) led the offense, while Owen Williamson and Ryan DeLucia played well defensively.
Will Crawford, William Tappan, Beckett Lee, Luke Kelly, Mac Crawford, Kevin Correa, Bo Minogue, Ryan McCarthy, and Jackson Quigley scored goals for a versatile offense. Mattheus DuPlessis made seven saves and Will Crawford won 16 of 18 face-offs.

In Division 1 Round of 8 action, St. John’s Prep Prep reached the end of the road. The Pioneers plated all three runs after two innings, and their defense took care of the Eagles from there. The Prep defeated Newton South and Wachusett Regional in earlier rounds and checked out with a final record of 14-9.

MIAA Meet of Champions
Peabody’s Alex Jackson (discus: 187-06; shot put: 62-05.25) was a double-winner in this past weekend’s MIAA Meet of Champions, held at Elliot Field on the campus of Fitchburg State University. Teammate Areno Saint-Victor cracked the top 10 with a heave of 156-00. Alessandra Forgione of the Tanners took first place in the javelin throw (143-06). Marblehead’s Nathaniel Assa had himself a day, recording first place in the 2-mile (9:14.52) and fourth in the mile (4:13.55). Lynnfield’s Nick Kelter recorded a top-five finish in triple jump (46-03.00). Noah Kabel of St. John’s Prep (400m hurdles: 56.13) also impressed alongside teammate Kye McClory, who took fourth in javelin (182-04). Saugus’ Soraya Mathieu ran the 100m in 12.62 for eighth place. In middle school action, St. Mary’s Lucian Paula won the 800m and can now call himself a state champion. Teammate Cristian Rodriguez took third in the same event.
