MARBLEHEAD — The Marblehead Select Board elected Daniel Fox as the board’s chair at Wednesday night’s meeting with no opposition.
The board also congratulated Jim Zisson for his recently elected position on the Select Board.
Zisson said, “Everyone who runs is a winner.”
The board also voted to transition the town’s domain name from Marblehead.org to Marbleheadma.gov, Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer said. This is to change the designation from a nonprofit to a governmental website.
He added that the .gov domain adds “legitimacy” to communications and other administrative capabilities.
This transition will happen on June 17. The .org site will continue to stay open until the transition is completed.
Fox said early voting for a special election on July 8 will take place on June 30 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and on July 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.
Kezer said the position for a chief procurement officer will be open to the public soon. This position was being fulfilled by Kezer and other town employees and is not a new position, rather one that hasn’t been fulfilled as a full-time position since Becky Cuttin retired in March 2024.
The Tree Warden, John Forward, said he recommended approval of Martha Walton’s request to remove two skinny Norway maples from her property at 344 Ocean Avenue, as they were growing 4-5 feet from her rear fence, abutting brown street.
The trees provide shade for the community, which is why the Select Board has to approve their removal. Forward said that Walton is required to pay for the removal and replacement of the trees, including two new shade trees to be planted on her property and two elsewhere in town.
The board agreed to the removal and compensation plan with no opposition.
The board approved a change in licensing application for Salvatore DeGeorge, who is the new manager at the Corinthian Yacht Club.
