SALEM – Alfredo Paratore, of Lynn, pled guilty to the murder of his mother, Katherine Paratore, in Salem Superior Court on June 12.
On the night of June 11, 2021, a call from the family home informed law enforcement, who found her deceased with multiple traumatic injuries. Paratore was 80 at the time of her death.
Alfredo Paratore, 53, initially pleaded not guilty in 2021. He was sent to undertake a mental competency evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital at the time of his arraignment, the Globe reported.
But appearing before the Hon. William F. Bloomer on June 12 this year, Paratore pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in state prison.
Prosecutor Kate MacDougall told the court that the plea spares the victim’s family from enduring a prolonged and difficult trial.
The defendant was represented by attorney John Morris. Multiple family members presented victim impact statements before the court, expressing their expectations that Katherine Paratore be remembered for the caring person she was.
