LYNN — This week’s Lynn Woods Running Series came with its typical three-race format, plus an “extra long” course called Baby Barkley, according to coordinator Joe Abelon.
The Baby Barkley is Lynn Woods’ much smaller version of a challenging trail in Morgan County, Tennessee. Created by Trailmaster Jeff Hixon, Lynn Woods’ Baby Barkley course is 11.6 miles long featuring six loops.
At the end of the day, it proved to be a challenge as only nine of 16 runners completed the race.
Melrose’s Adam Cook finished first (1:56:40), followed by Salem’s David Stoffregen (1:59:06), Beverly’s Erich O’Neil (2:00:35), Lynn’s Peter Gwilliam (2:07:42), Boxford’s Michael McKie (2:08:15), Salem’s Anthony Curcuru (2:10:28), Salem’s Deirdre Lowe (2:13:52), Lynn’s Gianni Edmundes (2:28:50), And Lynn’s Brandon Sok (2:29:42).
Lowe was the only female to finish.
The “long” race, two loops of the Baby Barkley and 5.8 miles long, saw ever-so-consistent Rafael Villatoro, of Lynn, win with a time of 48:25. The top female was Reading’s Erin Hickeyreardon in 1:08:03.
The “short” race, the first loop of the Baby Barkley and 2.8 miles long, was won by Wakefield’s Peter Swain (19:24). He was followed by Lynn’s Nicholas Fusco (20:25). The first female to finish was Swampscott’s Francesca Boggs (21:38), while the second female to clock in was Lynn’s Allison Gwilliam (24:06).
The 1.59-mile “kids” race was won by Cambridge’s Diego Bertoldi, 9, with a time of 12:33. He was followed closely by Lynnfield’s Marne Capolupo, 8, in 12:38. Two girls (ages 4 and 2) finished the race, while a pair of 3-year-old boys also finished.
