NAHANT — Any resident traveling down the causeway and entering the island can’t miss the huge Fireworks Committee poster on Nahant Road, showing travelers how far the committee has come with donations for the upcoming Fourth of July event.

Even though the committee has dwindled over time to one single member, Jen McCarthy has been working hard to solicit donations from residents to help defray the cost of the fireworks, band and concessions that participants will enjoy as they watch the colorful fireworks display over Bailey Hill.

So far, McCarthy has worked to raise $12,000, though she said the overall goal for the event is to raise $25,000.

The event kicks off on July 4 at 5:30 p.m., and fireworks begin at 9 p.m. on Bailey’s Hill. An ice-cream truck will be stationed at the Wharf, and vendors will line up along Tudor Avenue selling glow sticks and other concessions.

“I raise all the funds for the Fourth of July fireworks, and it’s the 24th year that I’ve been doing it — the committee started with six, but it’s only me left — so I’ve been going around and selling t-shirts also, in order to help raise money for the event,” McCarthy said.

Paid for by private donations from townspeople — the show is on July 4th, 9 p.m., fireworks shot from Bailey’s Hill.

McCarthy explained that the event is paid for by private donations from townspeople.

“I’ll set up a table at different places in town, like Willow Road, the Wharf, and Tudor Beach,” she said. “And there, people can come, buy a t-shirt, and help raise funds.

The event will also see the appearance of MojoSlim, an eight-piece rhythm and blues band, with deep roots in soul music, according to the band’s website.
