SAUGUS — Kowloon Restaurant has officially hit 75 years old, and the Wong family plans on celebrating in big fashion with a 75th Diamond Anniversary Gala Block Party.
Kowloon, which was established in 1950, originally held the name Mandarin House and was bought out by Madeline and Bill Wong in 1958. The restaurant is still owned under the Wong family name today.
The block party will be on Aug. 20 with a rain date of Aug. 21 and will go from 7 p.m. to midnight.
There will be outdoor concerts headlined by the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame band Starship. Block party goers can expect to hear “We Built This City,” “Sara,” Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” and “Jane.” Tavares will also be there playing hits like “It Only Takes A Minute,” “Whodunnit” and “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel.” Scott Brown & the Diplomats will be opening the show, and DJ Steve Virgilio will be keeping the crowd going.
All proceeds for the gala will benefit the Joey Fund for cystic fibrosis.
For standing room only tickets, they are $75, and doors open at 7 p.m. General admission is $100 with no reserved seats and doors opening at 7 p.m. Reserved seats, early admission (5 p.m.) and a light buffet are $150 a ticket with a special price for four or more people being $125 per person.
