NAHANT — The Nahant Public Library will be kicking off the Summer Music Series on July 12 at 1 p.m. on the lawn outside the library, where Don Hammontree will perform for the public free of charge, courtesy of a donor who wished to remain anonymous.
Hammontree is the guitarist and vocalist for the Cambridge-based band Fogelberg, which released its debut CD back in 2017.
Raised in Illinois, Hammontree started playing the keyboard at age 13 and guitar at 14. He eventually ended up in Chicago, where he played and wrote songs in various bands — the Stalins, Sharp Round Edges, the Bonnie Situation and Flatiron — before co-founding Six Feet Over in 1997 with singer Kim Koppel and drummer Mike Helenthal. The band released two albums: “Another Day Like Today” in 1997 and “This” in 1999, before it disbanded in 2000.
Hammontree marks the start of a summer-long string of appearances from local musicians lined up to perform at the library. The following week, on July 19, the library will feature an appearance from Marc Maccini, a musician from Medford who has written, recorded, and produced seven albums of original music, according to his website.
Francesco Barone, an award-winning guitarist, will appear at the library on July 26. Later, on Aug. 2, Lisa Haley — a musician who has been featured on Nickelodeon, YouTube, Fox News and ESPN.
“We have been doing a summer concert for a few years now, and we try to have them outside, weather permitting – we’ve also been recording them online so people can watch them if they can’t make it,” Morganstein said. “I’ve learned since moving to Nahant that, in the summer, people love to be outside… We have a lot of people who go on runs and walks. And one of the great things about our outdoor concert series is that people see it, and it helps bring them together at the library.”
