Saugus fires up support for Chief Drew fund

Elizabeth Della Piana

July 8, 2025 by Elizabeth Della Piana

SAUGUS — The Saugus Fire Department is once again seeking support for their Chief Drew Fund, a fundraiser that provides scholarships for Saugus High School students.

One way the department raises funds is by selling merchandise. You can go online and purchase t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and more to show your support.

This all leads up to the Chief George Drew Memorial Golf Tournament, which will be entering its 31st year. The tournament and fund are named after Drew, who served as chief from 1942 to 1955.

The tournament is hosted at The Meadow Golf Club in Peabody Monday Aug. 11, and is “the principal avenue of creating funding for educational scholarships awarded by the Saugus Firefighters’ Relief Association to deserving college-bound high school students,” according to the department.

The department is currently looking for sponsorships for the event and raffle prizes to be donated.

The list of sponsorships is as follows:

  • Tee-Box Sponsorship – $250 each (Tee-Box Signage provided for you)
  • Silver Level Sponsorship – $400 (Tee Box Sign, names on each golf cart, and welcome packet)
  • Gold Level Sponsorship – $600 (Includes Silver Sponsor and lunch or team photo sponsor)

For additional information you can reach out to Anthony Arone at 781-443-4650 or email [email protected]. Checks should be made payable to CHIEF DREW MEMORIAL FUND and the mailing address for the department is Saugus Fire Department 27 Hamilton St. Saugus MA 01906.
