The band Funbucket prepares to play a gig on the Lynnfield Common on July 16. (Funbucket)

Lynnfield hits a high note

LYNNFIELD– The Rotary Club of Lynnfield is sponsoring Concerts on the Common, a free concert series that will feature Funbucket on July 16, followed by Wildfire on July 23, and the Soft Touch Band on July 30. On July 23, a dessert truck, Kayem hot dogs, as well as children’s activities will be featured on the common.

Funbucket plays tunes that keep the dance floor full until the last song is played. Its members have professional backgrounds. Bassist Kook Lawry has opened eight times for U2 and twice for The Kinks, and has recorded 3 albums for RCA records with Robert Ellis Orrall. Guitarist Mike McMahon has played for Tommy Lee of Motley Crue and Posse NFX. Drummer Greg Dann owns and operates Rockpile Recording, a studio in Rockport Mass. Finally, vocalist Chris O’Connor sings with a transparent sound that allows him to blend into the band whose music he performs without outright impersonating them.

Lawry said the band is “super pleased that the Lynnfield Common Concert Series has asked us back for a night of great pop music from the ’60’s to the 2000’s. We have plenty of crazy antics to go along with it.”

He added, “Come see us! Everything you’ve heard is true!”

The concerts will be held each Wednesday at 6 p.m. The proceeds will sponsor local projects and the Lynnfield Rotary annual scholarship program.

The Julie Routhier Scholarship benefits three graduating seniors, residents of Lynnfield, who will be pursuing higher education and who show a strong commitment to community service.

The scholarship is awarded based on the Rotary’s core value of “Service over Self.” Each recipient will be granted $2000.
