LYNN – The City is launching the first phase of its new trash and recycling barrel distribution later this month, starting in specific locations across the city.
There will be 141 streets affected by the first phase, and residents in the impacted areas should be receiving letters in the mail regarding this new initiative. As far as the need for this change, according to the City, “Starting in 2024, the City began its partnership with Capital Waste for trash collection services. We aim to distribute new, standardized barrels designed to be consistent with the City’s visual brand.”
The City wrote that “to ensure a smooth transition, we will be collecting your old barrels and delivering your new ones during your regular trash collection days.” The City is asking residents to place their barrels on the curb, per usual, even if they are empty. The City also mentioned that barrels located on private property cannot be retrieved.
While the new barrels should be delivered in a timely manner, the City said there may be a one to two day delay between old barrel pick up and new barrel delivery. The new barrels will be the same size as the former barrels: 64 gallons for trash and 96 gallons for recycling.
“We’re excited to kick off Phase One of our new trash barrel distribution, a significant step in our ongoing commitment to enhance waste management throughout Lynn,” said Mayor Jared C. Nicholson. “This initial phase will impact specific areas, and we strongly urge all residents in those locations to stay informed to ensure a smooth and successful transition. We truly appreciate the DPW’s dedicated efforts in this initiative.”
