SWAMPSCOTT — Fisherman’s Beach was taken over by Bent Water Brewing Company for the “Bent Water Day on the Beach” event on Saturday, which blended beer, music, and food for the community to enjoy.
The best part? Underlying the fun, the summer sun, and the beach, the event had a worthwhile cause: with the entry fee being $10, proceeds from the event will go directly to the town’s annual 4th of July fireworks fund, according to interim Recreation Director Jackie Camerlengo.
“This is just another one of our events that brings the community together. I’ve actually yielded a bunch of phone calls from people who weren’t from here calling about today’s event,” Camerlengo said. “So, I think that this event, more so than the ones we’ve done in the past, is bringing in people from outside the area… And I think we can give the credit to Bent Water for that — they’re not a Swampscott company — but it’s a wonderful co-hosted event between us and them to bring the community together.”
Several tents lined the parking lot next to Fisherman’s Beach where participants could purchase the brewery’s countless different beers and beverages, grab a searing hotdog, as well as a stage that was erected for three bands to perform throughout the event: The Bordellos, the Bad Penguin Band, and the Christine Lucas Band.
Another exciting element of the event was the addition of a “tap truck,” which was parked in the back by the beach locker rooms. Participants could line up and select their preferred beverage, which would be poured out and served up by one of the Bent Water team members.
“We have our tap truck now, which we didn’t before, so it’s a huge addition,” Off-site Event/tap truck Manager April Feeney said. “Having just a can bar can create longer lines when you have one section selling beers… Now we have the draft section and the can section, which is awesome.
“The proceeds from the event go toward the Swampscott fireworks, so we’ve made sure to put that on the flyers, and we’ve told a lot of people that these proceeds go back to your community… And a lot of times, it’s people from neighboring towns and cities that come, too. So, it’s great that we have this nice collaboration with Swampscott.”
Chief Financial Officer and International Sales Wendy Fasciano expressed her excitement with bringing the event to Swampscott.
“This is our first year working with the town of Swampscott on this, and they’ve been fantastic, they’re so easy to work with, and this is always just a great community event,” Fasciano said. “We get people from Lynn, Marblehead… And it’s just a lot of fun. You can’t beat the views, you got great music and great beer, it’s awesome.”
