PEABODY– Local author Russ Cohen will be guiding a group of community members around Newhall Fields Community Farm to teach them how to safely and responsibly forage, identify edible plant species and their and nutritional value, and offer tips on preparation.
The event will take place July 22, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The farm is located at 193 Lynn St. in Peabody, and there will be street parking only. You can use code C2CNFCF2025 for free entry, however, there is a $20 suggested donation, with all proceeds benefitting the nonprofit Newhall Fields Community Farm.
Cohen is the author of “Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten.” He served as the Rivers Advocate for the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Ecological Restoration. Now Cohen is pursuing his passion: “Connection to nature via his taste buds, and assisting others in doing the same.”
The session will include learning about 18 species of edible wild plants, according to a press release from the farm. Event goers will also see farm staff and volunteers.
