July 18, 2025 by Mark Aboyoun

WESTFIELD —After claiming the state championship earlier this week, the Greater Lynn Babe Ruth 15/16U Navy All-Stars returned to action Friday evening.

Greater Lynn opened regional tournament play with a 4-2, nine-inning win over host Westfield at Billy Bullens Field, kicking off its bid for a deep postseason run in style.

Braeden Ohannesian pitched six strong innings, keeping Greater Lynn within striking distance before handing things over to the bullpen. Mark Walsh then took over and tossed three scoreless frames to earn the win in relief.

With the game tied at 2 in the top of the ninth, Rowan Merryman came through in the clutch, lacing a two-run single that gave Greater Lynn the lead for good.

Earlier, Collin Hart tied the game with an RBI hit down the left field line in the fourth inning after Greater Lynn fell behind early.

Kalen Huddle powered the offense throughout the game, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to help Greater Lynn begin pool play at 1-0.

Greater Lynn returns to Billy Bullens Field on Saturday to face Bethel, Connecticut. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
