WESTFIELD — The Greater Lynn Babe Ruth 15/16U Navy All-Stars smashed pool-play weekend out of the park, going 3-0 in regional action and securing the No. 1 seed at Billy Bullens Field.

After Friday night’s opener against host Westfield, Greater Lynn followed with victories against Bethel, Conn. Saturday and Belmont, N.H. Sunday.

Next is Tuesday’s semifinal showdown at 1 p.m. (opponent TBD).

Greater Lynn took down Bethel, 5-3, with Rowan Merryman batting 3-for-3. He hit a two-run homer to left field during the first inning, then singled in the third and fifth innings.

After Merryman’s early bomb, Bethel’s Aspen Liotta singled to right field and tied the game, 2-2.

But a Trent Cahill (2 H) double gave Greater Lynn (10 H, 0 E) a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Kalen Huddle joined the fun with a three-hit performance.

James Pasquale earned the win, allowing four hits and three runs across five innings to go with five strikeouts. Mark Walsh (0 H, 0 R, 3 K, 2 BB) pitched two innings for the save.

The team defeated Belmont, 10-6, Sunday and led by as many as eight runs. It was a quick start, as Greater Lynn established pressure with a 6-1 lead after two innings.
