BEVERLY — And then, there were four.
In Little League state final action at Harry Ball Field, the Peabody 12-year-olds (District 16) dropped their opening game against Walpole (District 11), 1-0, Thursday night.
A scoreless ballgame – in an instant – was over.
With two outs and a man on second base, Walpole’s No. 10 hitter recorded a walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth inning. It was a blooper into right field hit just over the infielder’s head.
Peabody’s Adam Grant (4 2/3 IP, 0 H, 6 K) threw 50 pitches, while Declan Peterson (1 1/3 IP) threw 16.
Earlier in the evening, Braintree American defeated Holden, 2-1.
In must-win action, Peabody takes on Holden Friday evening at 5 p.m. on the same field.
