SAUGUS — The Boys and Girls Club of Metro North, which includes Stoneham, Wakefield, and its newest addition, the Saugus Teen Center, is hosting one of its biggest fundraisers of the year, Dodging for Dollars.
According to the club, the money raised goes directly into unrestricted funds that support kids and families who need it most. The funds include putting food on the table for a child who might not have a meal, helping a parent give their child a birthday or holiday gift, and providing summer camps, swimming lessons, and scholarship opportunities.
The first dodgeball game kicked off on Monday, featuring Evolved Mechanical vs. BGC Staff. The games are going through Aug. 7. The BGC Staff has raised $2,927 of their $5,000 goal in their campaign, and the campaign as a whole has raised $16,797 with a goal of $50,000.
The clubs currently serve more than 500 children a day and last year served more than 8,000 youth. “We operate two clubhouses, five licensed afterschool programs, a teen center, and an outdoor pool. We have increased Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) classes,” their team page states.
In recent years, the Club has raised over $60,000 with the help of the Dodging for Dollars fundraiser. You can donate to the staff’s team online.
