LYNN — The Fire Department swore in Tim Magner II as its lieutenant Wednesday, promoting him from his previous officer role.
At the City Hall promotional ceremony, Magner II was supported by the presence of his parents, LFD Fire Chief Dan Sullivan, Deputy Chief Roger Alley, and Mayor Jared Nicholson.
“I am overwhelmingly proud to see my son move up the ranks,” Tim Magner Sr. said of the honor.
Coming from a household of retired Lynn police officers, Magner Sr. described his son as a “Lynn kid through and through,” whose nickname on the Fire Department is “the ironman,” due to his resilient attitude.
Joining the LFD in 2012, Magner II chose to further dedicate himself to the city by receiving a bachelor’s degree in fire science and master’s degree in public administration, accomplishments that impressed Fire Chief Dan Sullivan.
“That shows a commitment to learning and improvement. Taking that initiative instead of just leaning on the experiences of everyone else around you says a lot,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan described what he saw from Magner II at the Lynn Fire Department that made him deserving of a leadership role with more responsibility.
“He takes charge, gives good direction to the crew, organizes the scene, and steps in when appropriate,” he said.
Mayor Jared Nicholson also expressed his gratitude for Magner II’s services to the Lynn Fire Department.
“We are honored to celebrate the promotion of Lt. Magner. His promotion is a well-deserved recognition of his hard work and leadership. We greatly appreciate his contributions to the Fire Department and the safety of our city, and the important work he will be doing in his new role,” Nicholson said in a statement.
Sullivan is confident Magner will live up to the Fire Department’s expectations as the new lieutenant.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him grow as a firefighter. He’s definitely someone we can trust,” Sullivan said.
