LYNN — “BOLD” things are coming to Salem State University as a transformative modernization and unification project unfolds just over the border in Salem.

History of Success, a Lynn Community Television program hosted by Judith Josephs, recently featured Salem State University President John Keenan and Jake Cotter, a member of Salem State’s Alumni Association Board, to discuss SSU BOLD, a campus unification and modernization project that recently broke ground.

BOLD incorporates three major projects: the renovation of the Horace Mann Building to provide a new home and state of the art facilities for several programs currently on South Campus; the expansion of Meier Hall to provide critical lab space to several science programs; and a decarbonization project to provide heating and cooling of the new spaces without the use of fossil fuels.

Among the academic programs greatly benefitting from BOLD is Salem State’s nursing program, which has seen an increase in enrollment. Incoming students will use the new facilities as juniors and seniors, Keenan shared on the show.

The renovation of Horace Mann and the addition to Meier Hall will bring highly anticipated upgrades to all housed programs, offering students a competitive edge toward 21st-century jobs and career success, Cotter explained.

The changes taking place will increase work force connections to Health Care and Technology opportunities.

While Salem State’s life, physical, and health science programs will be most directly impacted by BOLD, all students who take courses in these programs — including general education requirements — will benefit from the project, Keenan explained.

Jake Cotter encourages other Salem State Alumni to give back to the University.

History of Success airs on Lynn Community TV on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 9 Comcast and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. on Channel 38 Verizon. The episode can also be viewed online on the Lynn Community TV website. For more episodes, please visit the History of Success website.
