LYNN — Phase one of the City’s new trash and recycling cart rollout project is currently underway.
Thursday, July 31 marked the first day of Lynn’s Department of Public Works’ new trash and recycling barrel distribution initiative. Six crews from Cascade Cart Solutions are tackling the delivery and removal process of 10,000 carts in 144 streets in select neighborhoods in Lynn.
When it comes to the new carts, residents can expect a 64-gallon trash cart and a 96-gallon recycling cart. The size of the carts will not change, however, the main feature of these new barrels is that they will now feature a City of Lynn logo.
As for the old carts, they will be removed via tractor trailers and transferred to a certified HDPE recycling hauler. The city of Lynn will receive credit at $0.05 per pound of recycled HDPE plastic.
Mayor Jared Nicholson praised the Department of Public Works’ commitment to the efficiency of the project’s first phase.
“Ensuring a smooth and open process for delivering these new barrels was a top priority. That takes dedicated teamwork, and DPW’s continued diligence behind the scenes has helped us respond to last-minute schedule changes, ensuring the project’s completion,” he said in a statement.
“We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and deeply appreciate the active participation and compliance of our residents,” he added.
Meanwhile, DPW Associate Commissioner Lisa Nerich commented on the benefits the first phase of the project will have for Lynn households.
“The City is pleased to provide new waste and recycling barrels through this replacement program. With the City now owning the barrels and responsible for repairs, we anticipate this being more convenient for residents,” she said in a statement.
Phase one of the project is estimated to cost Lynn $635,595, and is expected to be completed on August 8. All operations are currently progressing on schedule.
