LYNN — A fire broke out at the home of 18 Baltimore St. at approximately 6:13 p.m. on Thursday, August 14.
Lynn firetrucks were promptly called to the scene. A second alarm went off approximately five minutes later, requesting an additional engine and firemen.
Lynn Fire Department Lt. Denis Ring said the LFD originally received calls of a fire at 18 Baltimore St. that originated from the kitchen of the building. He also reported that everyone thankfully got out of the home safely. One civilian underwent examination by EMTs on the scene, however, the individual is not suspected to be severely injured.
18 Baltimore St. owner Elizabeth Ruiz, who has resided on the property for 41 years, confirmed everyone inside was able to evacuate the premises safely.
Witness and neighbor Megan McGivern gave her recollection of the scene. She said she first saw smoke, and then she quickly heard screaming from Ruiz.
“Thankfully, it started raining right around when the fire broke out. The fire department also got here wicked fast,” McGivern said to The Daily Item.
Witness Mark Buchanan echoed that sentiment.
“How quickly they got here was baffling,” he said.
Buchanan said he has lived in the neighborhood since 1988, and has never personally seen a fire break out on the side of Baltimore Street where the home is located.
“I heard a bang, and I actually thought it was a car crash at first. Then, I looked outside, and I saw the whole left side of that building lighting up,” Buchanan said.
Meanwhile, onlooker Christian Aldana said the fire “started blazing out of nowhere.”
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known, according to Lt. Ring.
“Our guys are out here really doing their best work,” Ring said to The Daily Item.
