To the editor:
Ten years ago, we created the Peter J. Gomes Service Award to recognize people whose quiet service changes lives, especially if it rarely makes headlines.
Reverend Professor Gomes was my mentor, my friend, and one of the most extraordinary human beings I’ve ever known. He showed me that real leadership isn’t about the spotlight, it’s about answering the call to serve, especially when no one is watching.
This award is our chance to recognize those unsung heroes among us—the neighbor who checks in on the elderly, the coach who gives every kid a fair shot, the volunteer who always says “yes” when help is needed most.
If you know someone like this, please write a nomination by Aug. 22, 2025, at moulton.house.gov/services/gomes. Let’s make sure the people who make our communities better know just how much they mean to us and get the recognition they deserve.
Sincerely,
Congressman Seth Moulton
