LYNN — Veteran teacher Sean Morris has been named principal of Lynn Woods Elementary School, according to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Evonne S. Alvarez.
Morris has taught in Lynn Public Schools since 1999 and spent the last 11 years at Lynn Woods. He replaces Ellen Fritz, who was named deputy superintendent in July.
“Mr. Morris has the experience and skill set to be an effective leader for Lynn Woods Elementary School,” Alvarez said. “He has shown the ability to analyze data in order to shape instructional strategies. He also has the advantage of having built meaningful relationships that will serve him well as he takes over the leadership of the school.”
Morris was a member of the Instructional Leadership Team at Lynn Woods, working with school administration to analyze data and guide school-wide decisions. He has also served as acting principal on many occasions, contributed to the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan, and served as an LPS mentor, supporting new educators in instructional practices and classroom management.
“Having worked closely with Ellen and built strong relationships with the staff, parents and the community, I’m excited to step into a leadership role and continue the principles of Lynn Woods: academic excellence, equity and opportunities for all students,” Morris said.
“We have a committed staff, conscientious students and engaged families. I look forward to working collaboratively with everyone to continue the excellence that permeates our school,” he said.
Morris earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Salem State University and a master’s in educational administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix. His father, John, is a retired principal, and his brother, Brendan, teaches in LPS. Morris has served as director of the Lynn Elementary Basketball Tournament since 2008, an annual competition that features 35 teams and 500 students citywide. He is also a certified basketball referee.
