To the editor:
The Peabody Council on Aging sponsored a gala luncheon at the Peter A. Torigian Senior Center on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, titled Return of the King. A wonderful performance was presented by Mike Slater, who impersonated Elvis Presley. Mike gave a fantastic performance of nearly all of Elvis’ million-dollar hits.
The event was free to everyone and was sponsored by the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, a volunteer group led by President Michael F. Zellen. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mike and all the Friends of the PCOA for a splendid time, a delicious free luncheon and a stellar performance by Mike Slater.
Jubilee Hall was beautifully appointed with tablecloths and napkins provided by the center’s volunteers — both men and women — who also served the meal and handled the cleanup. Hors d’oeuvres included hot buttered popcorn, followed by a meal of potato salad, coleslaw and a large barbecued cheeseburger with bacon. It was almost too much to finish. Dessert was a large butterscotch and chocolate sundae — simply delicious.
We would like to thank Mike Zellen and all members of the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, along with the volunteers and staff of the Peter A. Torigian Senior Center — Carolyn Winn, director; Laurie Nadeau, activities director; and Mary Kat DeLomba, volunteer coordinator — for making such a beautiful event possible for the elder citizens of our communities. Folks came from everywhere.
Thank you,
Philip Celeste
