SAUGUS — The Prevention Coalition and the Town of Saugus are teaming up to shine a light on those who have died of suicide and overdose. The Hope & Remembrance Vigil will take place Monday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. on the Town Hall lawn.
According to the coalition, the evening is meant to “honor those we’ve lost to suicide and overdose, to support the families who carry their memory, and to shine a light on the stigma that surrounds mental health and substance use.”
The coalition, which formed last year, has been working hard to find ways to highlight the importance of speaking on these topics by getting insight from different groups, such as Eliot Community Health Service and the NAN Project, for their Understanding the Teen Brain talk. They’ve also been joined by Nick McLeod, a local who works with Massachusetts Young People in Recovery.
“No one should have to struggle in silence. Together, as a community, we bring hope, healing, and remembrance,” they stated. “Join us. Stand with us. Let’s bring this conversation into the light. ”
