The St. Mary’s and Marblehead golf teams squared off at Tedesco Country Club in match No. 1 of the season. The Magicians protected their home course Tuesday in a 45.5-26.5 final.

Despite a 6-3 win from St. Mary’s Brennan Malloy, the rest of the action favored the hosts. Match winners for Marblehead were Tyler Forbes, Max King, Greyson Leventhal, Will Macrina (medalist: 35), Joy Meshulam, Colby Moore, and Dylan Whitman.

St. Mary’s has a quick turnaround with Wednesday’s match against Archbishop Williams (3 p.m. at Granite Links Golf Club). Marblehead visits Austin Prep Thursday (4 p.m. at Black Swan Country Club).

Swampscott (0-1) opened its season with a tight loss at Mount Hood Golf Course in Melrose.

“Both teams were outstanding as it came down to the final hole,” said Swampscott coach Ron Young.

The low man for the Big Blue was Tyler Ostroff (36). Other Swampscott standouts were Luke McGonagle (37) and Mike Collins (39).

With Drew George (36 points), Max Sabbagh (33), CJ Patermo (32), and Sam Bird (32) leading the charge, Lynnfield (1-0) took care of Essex Tech with all eight Pioneers “doing well,” according to coach Michael Moresco.

“Solid team effort,” Moresco said. “We had over 30 golfers come to tryouts last week, and after 63 holes of golf . . . we were able to select a varsity and JV program of 21 golfers. The level of competition within the team is the strongest that I have ever seen.”

Lynnfield hosts Newburyport Thursday at 2:45 p.m.
