You know what I’ve been thinking? Golf can be a frustrating sport – am I right? – but at the high school level, you can take a deep breath when you start 2-0.
Such is the case for Lynnfield High, once again helmed by coach Michael Moresco.
His team came out hot with a 191-171 win against Essex Tech. Drew George (36 points), Max Sabbagh (33), CJ Patermo (32), and Sam Bird (32) were the top shooters, but all eight Pioneers played well.
“Solid team effort,” Moresco said Tuesday. “We had over 30 golfers come to tryouts last week, and after 63 holes of golf . . . we were able to select a varsity and JV program of 21 golfers. The level of competition within the team is the strongest that I have ever seen.”
Two afternoons later, Lynnfield doubled up with a 129-123 win against Pentucket at Haverhill Country Club, “one of, if not the toughest course in the CAL (Cape Ann League),” according to Moresco.
Aidan Bord and Angelo Covino were co-medalists, but all eight Pioneers cracked the 20-point line.
“A solid, grinding team win,” Moresco said.
Lynnfield seeks a 3-0 start with Triton up next. Tuesday’s action is set for 3 p.m. at Sagamore Spring Golf Club.
