Cliftondale Pizza replaces Saugus staple

SAUGUS — With the closure of Sons of Sicily Eatery, a well-known joint that served Sicilian-style dishes, it has been announced that Cliftondale Pizza and Roast Beef will be taking over the Lincoln Avenue spot.

The Bulla family had owned and operated Sons of Sicily for 30 years, eventually moving to Saugus and becoming a favorite among residents.

In a statement made before their closing, the family stated, “We know there’s been a lot of chatter and questions lately, so we wanted to share this with you directly. After much thought and careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sell and move on from Sons of Sicily.”

They noted that rising costs and high rent made it impossible to continue operating the way they believed they should, with “quality, love, and care for our craft and community.”

The family noted that they would be on the hunt for a new location and a fresh start in the future and thanked their supporters for their loyalty and for being part of their “extended family.”

The restaurant’s comments were flooded with support and customers who understood why they needed to close. Many said they would miss the food and the family, with others asking them to open up in their towns or cities.

A few weeks after this announcement was made, reports came in that a new pizza joint would be sliding into the eatery’s place.

The new place, Cliftondale Pizza and Roast Beef, has already made a statement online saying they’d be opening soon and that people can look forward to their pizza, roast beef, and jalapeno poppers.

An official date hasn’t been set for their opening, but they said that it would be soon and that the announcement would be made on their social media platforms. A menu for what people can expect is already online.
