LYNN – Rising seniors from Lynn Tech’s plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC programs recently completed a course on green building principles.
The course debuted in August 2025 after Lynn Tech administrators discussed expanding its Fundamentals of Building Green courses, which was taught by the Mass Save Green STEP team earlier in 2025.
For the August program, Lynn Tech partnered with Mass Save, Earth Forward Group, and National Grid to give students further knowledge and skills in energy efficiency, sustainability, and green building careers. This training familiarized participants with the latest green building practices, codes, and technologies.
“This knowledge not only gives them a competitive advantage in the workforce but also equips them to help Massachusetts meet its long-term energy savings and climate goals,” Mass Save sponsors wrote in a statement.
The free two-week course, which included a stipend, specifically helped the students prepare for the LEED Green Associates certification exam, which is a credential that demonstrates foundational knowledge of green building principles.
“There is a strong, growing market demand for high-performing, sustainable buildings, making it more important than ever to prepare the next generation for careers in sustainability,” said Leon Katcharian, Senior Director of Credentialing at Green Business Certification Inc. “By integrating sustainability into professional development and continuing education, students and practitioners are well equipped with the skills needed to address the urgent climate crisis while also advancing innovation and strengthening the global economy.”
“Earning a LEED professional credential can enhance opportunities and differentiate individuals in a competitive job market, expanding business opportunities with an expanded offering of a broader range of services for sustainability-focused customers,” Katcharian added.
Katcharian also weighed in on the significance of LEED Certification Exam preparation courses such as Lynn Tech’s new initiative.
“Many candidates find value in prep courses and study groups available in the market, which can provide structure, accountability and opportunities to learn alongside peers,” he added.
