LYNN — It was a good weekend for the St. Mary’s boys and girls soccer teams, as both won championship games Saturday.
First, the St. Mary’s girls defeated Lynn Classical. The Spartans led 1-0 at halftime before scoring five unanswered goals in the second half for a 6-0 victory. Senior Sophie Skabeikis, who is committed to UMass, recorded a hat trick and was named MVP.
On the boys side, they controlled a 1-0 lead and with under six minutes left in the game the Spartans struck twice to win the game 3-0.

MVP Ryan Buser opened the scoring, then added a second late in the match, calmly finishing into the bottom corner. Minutes later, Buser made another run which led to Jackson Chevalier scoring the third goal.
Goalkeeper Nick Fusco earned the shutout.
BOYS SOCCER
St. John’s Prep 0
Brookline 0
St. John’s Prep played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Matt Droggitis made five saves for his second straight shutout to open the season.
Midfielders Owen Beeney and Finn McCabe, along with center back James Minor, all “played well,” head coach Dave Crowell said.

In the consolation game, the Rams defeated the Tigers. The match was tied 1-1 at halftime before Classical broke through 13 minutes into the second half.
Tech was awarded a penalty kick but failed to convert. Classical added a third goal late in the half to claim third place in the tournament.

The Pioneers’ attack was sharp on the road, finding the net multiple times.
Ollie Morgan scored once, while teammate Mohammad Ayari netted a brace to lead Lynnfield.
The Pioneers visit Essex Tech on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Lynnfield is back on the road on Tuesday at Essex Tech with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Marblehead 2
North Andover 0
The Magicians stayed perfect with a win at North Andover.
Liv Carlson gave Marblehead a quick lead, scoring in the sixth minute off a pass from Callie Gilmore.
Gilmore doubled the advantage in the second half, sending a shot into the bottom left corner.
Goalkeepers Hailey Gilmore and Lily Heller split time in net and combined for the shutout.

At the Clipper Relay, girls coach Will Herlihy said, “This was far and away the best team showing I’ve seen since I started coaching at Marblehead.”
Marblehead entered five teams in a field of 98. Each team had three runners, and each runner completed the 2-mile loop. The Magicians’ top squad finished fifth. The team of Norah Walsh (13:00), Sarah Munroe (12:16) and Marri O’Connell (12:04) combined for a time of 37:20.
Eight Marblehead runners improved on their 2-mile times from two weeks ago: Sophia Letwin (minus 1:49), Nadia Siragusa (minus 1:30), Patty Windsor (minus 1:17), Izzy Anaya Lanzillo (minus 1:06), Ginny Donato (minus 1:05), Walsh (minus 0:34), Evelina Beletsky (minus 0:24) and Ava Bannister (minus 0:20).
Bishop Fenwick
The Crusaders hosted the Catholic Central League McNiff Relay over the weekend.
The team of Marianna Kay, Julia Davis and Adelaide Sweatman helped Fenwick win the meet for the fourth year in a row, setting a course record of 18:01 — breaking their own mark by 38 seconds.
Olivia Rowe, Caroline Blatchford and freshman Kayla Antico placed fourth, while Mireille Climenson, Amanda Moric and freshman Katie Kelley took seventh.
On the boys side, Sam and Doron Appleyard teamed with sophomore Chris Kay for a fourth-place finish. John Reilly, Nondas Lagonakis and Liam Sullivan earned seventh, while Will Rand, Ryan Gauthier and Louis Della Gatta were eighth.
In the co-ed relay, Sam Appleyard joined Kay and Sweatman to win in 17:46. Doron Appleyard teamed with Davis and Rowe to take second.
