Roundup: Beane the hero for Marblehead field hockey team against Saugus

September 11, 2025 by Joey Barrett

With just 43 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s field hockey game between Marblehead and host Saugus, the Magicians struck for a 1-0 win, thanks to Sadie Beane after a feed from Keliane Salem.

“I am so proud of our offense for staying grounded and keeping their focus in this game,” said Marblehead coach Ali Carey. “Sadie’s goal really underscores the effort the team brought to the turf today. Every player on that field worked hard until the last second. The game ended with our defense shutting down an opportunity to score on a penalty corner. We played hard, we played for each other, and the work the players are putting in at practice is showing on the field.”

Carey added the defense “played a great game,” while goalie Elizabeth Hayes did her thing with 10 saves.

“Noa Brochstein had a very important defensive block in the goal, preventing a scoring opportunity from Saugus that just slipped past our goalie,” Carey said.

FIELD HOCKEY

Bishop Feehan 6
Bishop Fenwick 0

With a tough Feehan group in its way, the Crusaders came up short in Attleborough. Mia Millet, Bailey Chalmers, and Sophie Cooke played well in defeat. Sarah Bannister made 13 saves.

Swampscott 5
Peabody 2

Despite goals from Elizabeth Moore and Chris Troncoso, as well as 17 saves from Sophia Kassis, the Tanners met their match against Swampscott.

“Bella Kassis took charge in the backfield tonight, helping hold the score to 1-1 at the half,” said Peabody coach Jillian Tobin.

BOYS SOCCER

Lynnfield 5
Georgetown 1

Talk about Lynnfield leadership. Captains Mohammed Ayari, Rocco Scenna (2 goals), and Nate Zalvan all found the back of the net for the Pioneers (3-0-2). Ollie Morgan also ripped one, while Kellen Farias picked up the win between the pipes.

“We played pretty well and scored some goals,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “It was a good team win.”

Medford 2
Lynn Classical 1

Despite a goal from Edison Chacón, the Rams met their match on enemy turf. With Thursday’s strike, Chacón upped his goal total to five.

St. John’s Prep 6
Malden Catholic 0

It was a happy outing for St. John’s Prep, which received first varsity goals from Henry Barone, Marcus Obadai, and Devlin Murphy. Ryan King struck twice, while Garrison Murphy added another.

Goalkeepers Matt Droggitis, Padrig Sullivan, and Colin Gray combined to make four saves and the Eagles (3-0-1, 2-0-0 Catholic Conference) picked up their fourth consecutive shutout to begin the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynnfield 3
Georgetown 0

Lynnfield (3-1) took advantage of home turf with a shutout win against Georgetown. Goal-scorers were Giada Antidormi, Kaylee Barrett (assist), and Ella Pascucci.

Ava Damiani and Ava Cook also played well, according to Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont, while Victoria Minor “did a nice job” in net.

“I thought it was probably our best game we’re played so far this season – we played a really great game,” Vermont said. “Jordan Calichman played a tremendous game and our defense played really well. There was good intensity from us.”

VOLLEYBALL

Marblehead 3
Winthrop 0

In dominant set scores of 25-7, 25-4, and 25-11, the host Magicians upped their record to 3-1 with a conquering of the Vikings. The Chieftains invaded Swampscott High with a three-set (25-17, 25-22, 26-24) victory against the Big Blue, who were led by Hayden Haskell’s 11 digs, three aces, and 10 service points.
