Football roundup: Lynn Tech starts with a bang against Malden

September 12, 2025 by Joey Barrett

With multiple defensive stands in the second half, Lynn Tech’s football team (1-0) started its season in style with a 27-14 victory against Malden at Manning Field.

Do-it-all Jadiel Ortega threw a touchdown pass, rushed for another, and recorded an interception on defense. Eddie Lewis “ran hard for us tonight,” according to coach James Runner, and Jacob Garcia collected four sacks.

“And I want to give a lot of credit to my defense and offensive line,” Runner said. “There was a lot of group tackling by my linebackers.”

Everett 42
Lynn Classical 6

After scoring on a broken play late in the first half, the Rams looked as if they would enter halftime trailing by only two points, but Everett parlayed a big kick return into a touchdown in the final seconds to lead 14-6 on the way to the blowout victory.

Gianni McKay scored the lone TD for Classical (0-2), picking up a mishandled snap on a field goal attempt and rambling into the end zone for a 13-yard TD run to cut Everett’s lead to 8-6. John Barreiros returned the ensuing kickoff 32 yards to the Classical 40 and it took the Crimson Tide (2-0) only three plays to get into the end zone when quarterback Tyler Freni found Jeremiah Joseph for a 26-yard scoring strike.

Everett scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to seal the win. Jamauri Dulin had five carries for 106 yards and a TD and also scored on a 38-yard reception for the Crimson Tide.

McKay was a workhorse for Classical, carrying 27 times for 105 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Houen rushed for 38 yards, all in the second half.

Classical travels to Medford next Thursday night.

Lynnfield 6

Lynnfield played a better second half in this one, but it wasn’t enough. Pioneer positives included Matt Tracy finding Dan Lemieux and James Pasquale for chunk-yardage plays, Ben Gazit holding his own on the defensive line, and Luke DiSilvio impressing in the secondary, “playing tight coverage against one of their top receivers,” according to Lynnfield coach Pat Lamusta.

Marblehead 26
Bishop Fenwick 20

Marblehead (2-0) worked its magic again – this time with the Crusaders in town. James Machado, Breydan Callahan, and Rylan Golden (from quarterback Finn Gallup) scored touchdowns for the Magicians, while kicker Finbar Bresnahan converted two field-goal attempts.

St. John’s Prep 49
Marshfield 8

Twenty-eight first-quarter points usually do the trick. After last week’s last-second win against Springfield Central in a meeting of powerhouses, St. John’s Prep (2-0) cruised this time around. The Eagles, again helmed by coach Brian St. Pierre, have scored 85 points in two games.

Winchester 42
Peabody 7

Looking to avenge last week’s 21-0 loss in Melrose, the Tanners again fell short in enemy territory. Peabody (0-2) returns to Coley Lee Field against Swampscott next week, followed by another home game Lynn English the following week.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin 29
Saugus 6

With a Week 1 bye last week, the Sachems (0-1) met their match on home turf against Cambridge Rindge and Latin Friday. Saugus looks to win No. 1 next Friday against Wilmington at 6:30 p.m.
