LYNN – Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) is collaborating with Families First to host free, virtual parenting classes.
The Power of Parenting program offers additional guidance, resources, and a strong sense of community to Lynn parents of all stages. The classes focus on strengthening self care techniques, learning about children’s development stages, connecting with other parents, expanding parenting strategies, and growing as an individual and as a community.
“This commitment reflects Lynn’s broader vision of creating a strong, supportive environment where families can thrive together,” said Families First Program Manager Jennifer Baez.
Baez said parents often come to the program seeking support with common challenges such as discipline, effective communication with their children, fostering emotional development, and building confidence in their parenting role.
“Many are looking for practical tools and strategies to handle everyday situations more calmly and consistently,” Baez said. “The program helps parents strengthen their skills, gain reassurance that they are not alone in these struggles, and feel more empowered and confident in their ability to guide their children’s growth and development.”
In the program, one to two participants will be selected for a paid Parent Leadership role, where they will be given a stipend to help ensure the program runs smoothly.
“By providing a stipend, we not only recognize the value of their work but also empower Parent Leaders by affirming their expertise, building their confidence, and encouraging them to take on future leadership roles within their families and communities. This investment helps create a ripple effect of leadership and advocacy that benefits the entire community,” Baez said.
Upon completion, the parents will also be honored with a graduation ceremony, where they will receive information about joining the Families First alumni network to sustain the skills they have learned, build long-term relationships, and remain active partners in their children’s development.
The Power of Parenting consists of 12 sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. The classes start on Sept. 23, and there will be an information session on Sept. 18. Classes will be offered in both English and Spanish.
