LYNNFIELD – The Finance Committee met Monday night to discuss a proposed budget calendar, which Chair Tom Kayola said would drastically speed up the upcoming budget process.
“With the analysis that they went through last year with the override, it seems that the expectation is that the guard rails of this coming operating budget are pretty well set in place,” Kayola said.
He added, “The hope is that the calendar itself can move up considerably, and we could be talking and voting on a more finalized budget in mid-January as opposed to the March timeframe – which would be fantastic.”
Committee member Brian Moreira asked Kayola if the proposed calendar aligned with the school’s calendar, to which Kayola said he had not yet confirmed with Superintendent Tom Geary if this proposed budget calendar would work on their end.
“I think that is the outstanding piece to move that from a draft to a finalized calendar,” Kayola said.
Monday night, the Finance Committee also set its next two meetings. It will meet Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Kayola said the meeting on Oct. 6 would be to give the state of the state, and the meeting on Oct. 20 will be to discuss and vote on Town Meeting warrant articles, as Town Meeting is coming up and set for Oct. 27.
