LYNN — Lynn Tech’s football team didn’t have Saturday night off, but sure made the most of it. The Tigers (2-0) stayed perfect with a 20-6 win against Montachusett Tech (0-2) at Manning Field.
“I’m excited for the kids. We’ve been working hard and had a really tough camp,” said Lynn Tech coach James Runner. “We told the kids about the expectations we wanted. I think it’s paid off these last few weeks.”
You could say the Tigers’ ground game was for real. Colin McGough, Anthony Brown, and Eddie Lewis (66 yards rushing) scored touchdowns, with McGough carrying 11 times for 165 yards.
“The offense opens up guys on any given night. This was Colin’s night and I think it’s important for him to have these opportunities,” Runner said. “I also give credit to Eddie Lewis for stepping up. He made a really good impact for us.”
Lynn Tech jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead before feeling some pressure in the third quarter. That was when Monty Tech cut the deficit to 13-6.
But in the end, the Tigers clawed out another one after Week 1’s home win against Malden.
Runner also credited Geo Rowe, Jeffrey Moore-Thayer, and Yerik Montalvan.
“Defensively, I’m very, very proud of our guys,” Runner said. “If we can keep this momentum up, we’re gonna be a tough team down the road.”
Lynn Tech plays host to Saugus (0-2) next Saturday at 7 p.m.
Sachems’ coach Steve Cummings said he’s looking forward to the matchup, despite his group’s winless start.
“Right now, we’re struggling to find a rhythm . . . and not doing ourselves any favors,” Cummings said. “We’ve got to figure it out, battle, and find that formula.”
